Pale Blue dot Think of the rivers of blood spilled by the generals and emperors so that, in glory and triumph, they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot. Carl Sagan
I suppose it is our selfishness, or greed that drives us to such horrendous actions. To murder and slaughter, to lie, and to break one another. To let ourselves be blinded and deaf to the screams of mercy, holes made by air born bullets, and jagged cuts carved by knives. The heartache we cause, to feel a sense of empowerment, control. Is it really worth it? In the commotion of things, we never realize the lines we have to cross to get to what we want, but honestly don't need. Something that you might think lasts for a life time, doesn't. So in the end, we caused all the havoc for nothing. In truth the only ever lasting accomplishment or affect, our greed/self pleasing actions led to were, the elimination of our own species. Human beings. We think to ourselves by murdering, hurting, and stealing we're leaving room for a better tomorrow, a better future. Maybe so, but what about now, the present, today? The lives in that moment in time before the raid or bomb. Do they not matter? What if they were our future? Well then, you've just rid us of that, to have one where you are momentarily in power, and for what? For recognition, pride, a title? The only recognition or title your going to get is murderer. The one who ripped those innocent children out of a prospering life. People say that we learn about our history to prevent ourselves from making the same mistakes. They also say, even with all the teachings, and hearing about the pandemonium, we are in-fact doing what we try not to. Repeating history. It's disappointing honestly, how we seem unable to move forward. Forget about what we want for ourselves but instead need as a community, as people. Think to yourself for a moment. Do we really need masters for everything, including our home? Or can we possibly share and protect our planet together. Instead of trying to conquer it and break it in the process. Thought that alone could be too hard, if we can't even learn from mistakes made by our ancestors. There is no need for the blood, sweat, and tears caused by one another. It's absolutely unnecessary. If we can't realize it we don't deserve much. Including the pale blue dot that harbours our lives. The mote of dust, that we've scarred one too many times with our hate, selfishness, and greed. Yet it continuously shows us mercy. Mercy that we might not deserve, but need to appreciate and learn to have, and spread as well.

The piece of art I would take home with me would be the work of art by Jackson Pollock 'Lavender Mist.' It was a busy, yet organized painting, that wasn't just made to be looked at one way. It was meant to make you think, expanding your imagination.
At first I didn't know what to make of it, there were so many strokes and splashes of colour. Red, black, white, etc. I examined it for some time, then came to a consensus. It looked like a village, an over populated one at that. As crazy as it looked, to me the community was somehow organized, with everyone doing something to keep it going. It was unbelievably beautiful. Every night before I dozed of, I would look across my room and admire the painting. I would see what it looked like that night, and eventually it would become a continues game. I would lay back and close my eyes as the new image became my dream. What I would Change In Our Ungrateful Society. In this world that we live in today, children, adults, and teens, are continually faced with problems. These problems are easily based on the way they look. What they have to fix, and if they can. So, we as people end up loving ourselves less, because of the way we look, and feel about ourselves. We end up not accepting ourselves, judging each other because of our physical appearance, lowering our self esteem.
In answer to your question, what would I change in the world? The way people look at themselves, and each other. Ever hear the saying, 'don't judge a book by it's cover? Well, same should go for us human beings. You can't tell who someone is by the way they look, appearance tells you nothing. You don't really know if someone is truly a beautiful person unless they have shown you their true self. That's when you can tell if someone is beautiful, their heart, and personality. We need to learn to be more patient, and eager to find out more about one another to gain the type of relationship that we all yearn for. As much as I may hope for my wish to come true, I doubt it will. Why? Well, we aren't perfect, we may be able to change, but not that much. It doesn't matter what we do sometimes, that's just how our civilization works. We'll have to learn to live with it. As long as you accept, and love yourself, and continue to do the same to others, that's amazing. To make a difference, or to fix our current situations we don't need everyone, just the people who want to. |
